Retro Wednesday.....

Hi Boys and Girls....G-Man goes Wayyy Retro this Wednesday!
(Say that fast and you'll sound just like Elmer Fudd)

During WWII, all sorts of items needed to be rationed.
While some food items were scarce, others did not need rationing.
Americans adjusted accordingly...Red Stamp food items included all meats, butter, fats and oils. Cheese was an exception! Blue Stamp food items included all canned, bottled, and frozen fruits and vegetables. Some juices and dry beans, along with processed baby foods and soups. They became almost as valuable as real currency!
Anyway...This book was owned by Harmon E. Haynes, My Granpa. The picture quality is poor but these are 'Blue Stamps'!
I also have my Granny's as well.
And yes I do indeed own a rotary phone...But I Can't Find It Grrrrrrrrrrrr.
I hope you enjoyed this little History Lesson...Carry On!
Peace...!!!

Wow, you really do have a little bit of everything. I don't even know how you stuff all that "stuff" into one house. I'll bet those ration stamps are real collectors items, though.:)

i heard of this and never saw what they looked liked.

i grew up with a rotary phone..

People still say dial a phone when there is no dial on the modern phones.

I won't get a cell phone; hate those little things.. lol.

We should all be rationing, working hard enough to support family and/or humanity overseas, and growing our own...

why do certain people feel priviledged, when the world is tightening it's belt and many are doing without by crisis?

I wax unpoetic.
Glad you brought our parent's world into perspective.

Rationing ended here in 1953 - sugar being the last foodstuff to be rationed, which meant that sweets (candies to you)were scarce when I was a little girl - though I don't remember of course.

Are there 55 stamps in the book?

I have a ration coupon book that belonged to my grandmother. I tried to explain what it was to my kids, they couldn't grasp the concept.

Hi, Galen! I've been "lost" in Punta Gorda for almost 4 weeks. We're preparing our house for sale. I haven't been able to get into the library because of all the snow birds. SO-I just put up a Friday 55er and it will have to serve for both last week and this week! Sorry about that. Best I could do under the circumstances. Trust you are well. D

That's quite an impressive collection, G-Man! Isn't it amazing how much stuff one can accumulate? I think back to when I first moved here and how much I've accumulated! I should start an e-bay account for sure! ;)
