Retro Wednesday......

Hi Everybody....
The top two radios are from the 60's.
The Orange radio's straw, is the antennae. It,s AM/FM!!
The second pic is a bicycle radio, it bolted to the handle bars. I do not still have the bracket. It's just AM
The car radio still works. It's from the 70's.
The last two pics are of a Solar/Crank radio from The Sharper Image. It was made in South Africa, where in the out-back batteries were scarce, but sunlight is in abundance. A 60 second crank, gives you about 35 minutes of playing time after the Sun goes down. It's from about 1988...
OF COURSE they all still sound GREAT!!!
Peace.....

Tired Tuesday.....

Hi Everybody...

My office was like a revolving door today.
From 8:30 am to 8:00 pm, I talked to 8 different customers.
"Cash for Clunkers" is bringing in folks, but very few vehicles qualify!
I finally sold customer #8.
I'm sorry I've been remiss in my commenting duties, but you'll be my age someday...
If Your Lucky!!!
Peace...!!!

Bargain Monday......

Hi Everybody...
Doncha just LOVE a bargain?
Remember that Ghetto Jalapeno Popper cooker that I Jerry-Rigged?
Well I was at Meijers Acres today, and I found this Pepper Cooker on closeout for $3.49..YAY!!!!
It holds 18 peppers. I also got Jumbo Alaskan King Crab legs for 10 Bucks a pound! I bet that if you chopped up both these huge claws, and mixed it with that Onion and Chive soft cream cheese, and stuffed the peppers with that filling, and skewered a piece of Maple Flavored bacon over the top to keep the filling from oozing out, and placed them on a grill for about an hour.....That you would have something very very tasty!!! What do ya think?
I'll be very busy this week...Cash for Clunkers is driving me NUTS!!!
I need a vacation....BAD!!!!!
Peace...!!!

Friday Flash 55...

She was new in town.
Her girl-friend 'set her up' with a singer,
and their first date was to be dinner in a public place.
He dressed stylish, she wore a red scarf, they chit-chatted.
When she lit a cigarette to calm her nerves, she clumsily burned herself...
And fled the restaurant in embarrassment!!

.

Ha, perhaps she inherited her father's shipfitter blues eh?
If you or anyone you know has posted a Friday Flash 55,
please come tell The G-Man!
I will visit, read, enjoy, comment...Then BOOK!!
So from the most gracious host, from coast to coast....
Have a Great Week-End!!!

They already look Eastern Europeon. hehehehehe

Retro-Wednesday.....

Hi everybody....
I believe I promised you a resumption of some forgotten words starting with the letter N. But since this is My Blog, and I do not feel like typing a lot tonight, I'm just gonna leave you with some forgotten images that you will NEVER see again.
It looks like that darn Ronnie switched brands doesn't it?
Also, for a few old farts that used to steal coffin nails from their mom's purse, or their drunk uncles pocket (That was me...hehehehe). Here is a little retro brain teaser...
1..Which of these brands used the slogan..L.S.M.F.T.?
2..What did it mean?
3..What was the naughty version?

Peace...!!!

They Ran Through The Briars, And They Ran Through The Brambles...

At the wedding reception, there were loads of different little enclaves of people that I really didn't know that well. Mandy's In-Laws, people from her work, Seans friends, ETC. I also had a vast amount of folks that did not know a lot of other people. My college buds, my work buds, cousins, ETC.
Needless to say, making the rounds, entertaining old Aunts and Uncles, and making your friends feel at ease, Mandy and I really didn't see a whole lot of each other that day and night. Since this was a party on a shoe string, there was no band OR DJ.
But Sean is a very talented young man when it comes to computers and music, and he pieced together about 8 hours of music that was very special to him and my daughter.
Of course we are of different generations and interests, and there is only so much Weezer, 'Emo', Moby, Czech music that I could take. But it was THEIR night so I just went with the flow. But at one point, late in the evening, I noticed that the music got a little louder. My Daughter made it a point to seek me out and say.."Daddy, these two next songs are for you", and winked.
These songs were Johnny Horton's "Battle of New Orleans", and "Rocky Racoon".
Let me tell you something, out of all the moments that her and I have shared at graduations, recitals, concerts, airports, her wedding...This moment touched me the most, and I had to be alone for a few moments...
When Mandy was a little girl, I would tuck her into bed. I think most parents would read to their children bed time stories, but she would have none of that!! She wanted me to sing to her so she could fall asleep. I can't sing for shit, but I did know two odd-ball songs by heart that she really liked...The Battle of New Orleans, and Rocky Racoon. I didn't feel like boring you with 2 video songs, but this version of Rocky Racoon is kinda cute....Enjoy.
..."He said Rocky you've met your match, and Rocky said Doc it's only a scratch. And I'll be better Doc as soon as I am able".

They leave for Prague Wednesday at 3...

I don't know about this one either....

Peace...!!!

Yay...It's OVER!!!!

Hi Everybody...

Whew....Finally!!!

What A Week-End...Friday, Reese and I had to go to a friends pole-barn and hump a bunch of tables and chairs down a steep flight of stairs and load them in my truck.
While I was gone, the tent guys came and set up a 20x30 big top.
The rest of the day was spent setting stuff up and preparing food.
Saturday, me and the boy picked up a full keg of ice cold Labatt Blue, and came back and started to set the tables and finish the garage.
People started to filter in about 2:30 or so, and I had Reese tap the keg.
Appetizers and chips were getting devoured and the crowd was getting hungry...Finally the Roast Pig arrived in grand style, and the crowd roared with approval!! This was the ONLY functions ever held at the House of Haynes whereas I didn't cook one thing...I mingled, hosted, and was the father of the bride all day!
Let me tell you something, Mandy has been a vegetarian since she was 10. She saw this program on the travel channel where Anthony Bourdain was in Thailand at a pig roast and raved about how awesome the skin tasted. She decided that at her wedding reception, she and Sean (also a veg-head), would partake of some plump, porcine, pleasure. Anyway, these people knew what the hell they was doing, the pig was roasted for 16 hours, and it literally melted in your mouth....WOW!
That was money very well spent, and EVERYONE raved about how spectacular it tasted.
All in all, the day and reception was a huge success. My cousin spoke to me with great admiration about how I pulled off a great wedding party, at relatively little cost. Our other cousin's daughter is getting married soon, and the wedding dinner alone is costing them 10 Grand.
10 GRAND?...Thats great if your last name is Rockefeller, but mine ain't!
How lucky am I to have such a frugal and practical daughter?
The table flowers were all picked from our own yard, the only booze I provided was the keg( and I got that at cost..80 Bucks )!! And there was no hall or DJ!!
In fact, Mandy and Sean Mixed 6 hours of their favorite music, and that is what was played...
And there is a great story behind that as well, but that will be tomorrows post...
The last pic is what my driveway looks like now...Quiet, with empty tables and chairs waiting to be loaded and folded and humped once again..Grrrrrrr.
Peace...!!!

Thursday Portrait.....

Hi Everybody...
Last Wednesday I had the honor of being invited to Borders in Birmingham Mich., for a book reading and signing by author Megan Abbott. The book Bury Me Deep is about a murder that took place in Phoenix Arizona in 1931.
While there I met a few bloggers..
The burley biker lookin dude is The Walking Man..
The bubbly Fireblossom is in the next pic..
Let me tell you all something, those two are are very talented poets!!
I urge you all to visit them if you already haven't...
There was also another very talented and awesome writer there, but she claimed that my picture taking left much to be desired. She also instructed me not to post her pic, since she is a part-time CIA undercover operative. But being the rebel that I am, I'm posting the pic anyway.:P
She does look a little familiar...
I'm starting to think about my 55...No ideas yet..Hahahahaha..Riiiiiight!

The big reception is this Saturday, ande I have LOTS of work left to do around the house, so I may be a bit scarce this week...Carry On.
