Me and Him and This Other Fool..........

My old friend and fraternity brother Brian, owns a little Ma and Pa store not far from me.
He has a small but popular meat counter where he cuts his own steaks, and grinds his own Burger and Sausage. He also makes his own fresh Bratwurst and Kielbasa from pure pork shoulder. Every Saturday or Sunday I'll pay Brian a visit, we have a small little circle of friends that drink coffee, bull-shit, and solve the problems of the world. This morning one of his patrons brought him a little something from the great state of Kentucky.
I'm not saying exactly what it is, but I'll tell you this much about it.....
It's the smooooothest stuff of that nature, that I've ever had.
It's about 190 proof.
It was Kick-Ass!
I had to wait a couple of hours to drive home after 3 teeny tiny sips.
It very appropriately came in a Mason Jar...hehehe
Remember that great old tune by Roger Miller? Well, this was NOT grape wine, and there certainly was no chug-a-lugging, but ooooh my ears are still ringing!!!!!

Retro Wednesday.......

Circa 1970, there used to be a wonderful "head shop" in downtown Flint called The Touch Boutique. You could buy all sorts of...er 'paraphenalia' there. I came across this handy little
cigarette holder that had been missing for several years. This was made in India, LONG before the lovely Mona was even born!!

TMI Tuesday.....

Hi Everybody...I was gonna do a little thing about ...This Day in History!
But not much of interest happened on this date. I don't think you wanted to hear about John Dillinger joining the Navy to avoid arrest in 1923. But yesterdays date was kinda interesting...July 21, 1865. That was the date usually attributed to the first "Showdown" in the Old West.
.
In Springfield Missouri 1865, Wild Bill Hickock was eking out a living as a professional gambler.
During a card game with someone that he already knew ( a former Union Soldier named Dave Tutt), Tutt brought up the subject of a past debt. Wild Bill did indeed fess up to owing him some money, and handed him 25 Dollars. But Tutt insisted that Bill owed him 35 Dollars and snatched a very nice pocket watch of Bills off of the table in front of him. An argument ensued, and it was agreed to settle the dispute with guns, and in the street the next day. Bills final words that night before leaving was.."And Dave, don't you be wearing that watch tomorrow!"
So sure enough at High Noon on the streets of Springfield Missouri, Dave Tutt was seen purposfully pulling out the watch and very obviously gazing at it for a long time. This incensed Wild Bill, but he kept his cool. As they faced off in the middle of the street, they stopped and stared intently and silently at one another. They were an unusually long distance from each other, about 75 feet, Tutt's nerve's got the best of him and he drew first and fired at Bill, missing him. Wild Bill then drew his cap and ball revolver, took dead aim, and shot Dave Tutt right through the heart, killing him within seconds. He then very calmly walked over to the dead body, removed his watch from the corpse, and mosied over to the saloon.
Bill was arrested for murder, but a jury acquitted him because of self-defense.....
.
Harpers Magazine later published a very sensational account of the duel, and that article made Wild Bill a Household name. But on August 2nd in 1876, Wild Bill walked into Nuttal and Manns Saloon in Deadwood South Dakota seeking a card game. Bill always sat in a corner chair so he could protect himself from a sneak attack, but all of the chairs were taken, so he sat in the only available seat....With his back facing the door! Sure as shit, some glory seeking yahoo named Jack McCall snuck up behind Wild Bill and shot him in the head with a 45 caliber revolver.
It was said at the time, that the Poker hand that Bill was holding when he was gunned down was a pair of Aces, and a pair of Eights. And ever since in Poker, Aces and Eights is known as "The Dead Man's Hand".!!..McCall was tried, acquitted, Re-tried ( S.D. was only a Territory, and NOT a state, so there was NO double indemnity), found guilty, and hanged!!
.
I've been to Deadwood, I have the T-Shirt to prove it.
And now you know...The rest of the story!!
Peace...!!!

Ann Arbor Saturday...........

Hi Everybody....I hope you all had a great week-end, I sure did!!
Saturday we all went to Ann Arbor to visit Mandy and to see the annual art fair.
Mandy has indeed graduated from U of M, but she staying in her Apartment till Sept, because she is working about 6 miles away in Ypsilanti for the Summer.
It was a Hot, Humid, and very overcast day, but the art was fabulous (as were the prices), and the food was great. You see Reese eating his "Chicken on a stick"? That with some noodles and cabbage was 9.00. The basket is holding what was left of a huge heaping pile of deep-fried Idaho and sweet potatos. Six Bucks...!! Those were awesome, so I didn't mind paying.
See the 4th pic down...? I call that one, Lime-Heaven!!!
That blurry pic beneath that one was a Celtic Ensemble that was very very good.
I have to work till 8:00 tonight and Tuesday, so my commenting will be sporadic at best.
Sorry...
Gave a Great Week...Peace!!!!

Hog Heaven 55......

Wind in your hair.

Warm Summer air.

The Screaming Eagles roar, makes the spirits soar.

Highways, back roads, Bars where friends meet.

V-Twin thunder, tearing up the streets.

Your leather, your attitude, brings a grin you can't resist.

From 60 to 90, with a flick of the wrist!!!

God....I love Summer in Michigan.

.

Hi everyone...If you or anybody you know has written a Friday Flash 55, please come tell the G-Man. I will visit, read, enjoy, comment then...Book!!!

Have a marvelous week-end...Peace!!!

Thursday Portrait.....

I was sitting at my favorite watering hole on the 4th of July waiting to meet some friends.
In walks a strange little guy that I had never seen in there before. Upon entering the pub he see's me and yells out.."Happy 4th of July brother, I know you was in Nam!"
I chuckled to myself and said, "Nope, I WAS drafted, but Uncle Sam didn't want me". He smiled and started doodling on a piece of paper with a #2 pencil....
About 15 minutes later he strolls up to me and asked my name. He then writes it all down and presents this "Masterpiece" to me...."This is how I make my living brother, anything will help".
I gave him a Two-Dollar bill, bought him a shot of Jack Daniels, and he then handed me this drawing. I thanked him and sat down at the bar, as the barmaid Stacy brought me another MGD, she glanced at the sketch and said.."Why did that guy draw you a picture of Michael Moore"?
.
.
I hope you all are thinking about your Friday Flash 55...I Am!!

Retro Wednesday.......

Michigan Stadium...aka. "The Big House", was formally dedicated at it's present location in 1927. I have been going to football games there since college days. I have had season tickets since 1976. Several times over the past 80 years there have been renovations and expansions made on this grand structure, and during one of those renovations, they took the original bleachers out and replaced them. But being that Michigan has one of the leading business schools in the nation, they marketed some sentimental stuff for me and my fellow "pack-rats" to own and possess forever. So here is an original seat from that first year of existence, with a laser sketch of what the stadium looks like now, and a brass plaque stating it's authenticity.

TMI Tuesday......

The feast day of St. Lawrence is coming up on August 10th. He was roasted alive on a spit, but faced death heroically telling his torturer's..."Turn me over, I'm cooked on that side."
St Lawrence is the patron saint of those who grill!!!
Here are a couple more little known saints that may pique your interest...
.
St. Denis is the patron saint of syphilis and Paris (coincidence? I think not). And he should NEVER be confused with St. Fiacre, the patron saint of non-specific venereal diseases. He combined this with looking after gardeners AND hemorrhoid sufferers!
One day after an altercation with a non-believer in Brittany, St. Fiacre sat down heavily on a rock and miraculously left an impression of his buttocks on it. Christian acne and hemmorrhoid sufferer's later claimed that they could get relief by sitting on this impression.
Thousands flock to this shrine today, near the village of Clearasil...
.
St Agatha is the patron saint of Malta, bell ringers, fire, earthquakes, sterility, and diseases of the breast. In the 3rd century, she defended her virginity against a high-ranking Roman and was sent to prison, where her breasts were cut off; They were restored by devine intervention!
(Much like Pam Anderson's) She was later sent to work in a brothel, (where her virginity somehow remained intact). She was then burned at the stake, where she failed to ignite!!! Finally she was beheaded. Sicillians honor her every year by carrying an image of her breasts through the streets. ( St Agatha, NOT Pam Anderson)
.
And you know what? I just had breakfast so I'm saving the story of St. Catherine of Sienna for another time..
.
Peace...!!!

Friday 55.......

John Wayne's character in the movie..."The Searchers", was a defiant, macho-loner!
An Anti-Hero typical of the mid-50's.
Whenever someone said something he disagreed with, he'd sneer...
"That'll be the day"!
The phrase caught on among teen-agers. And especially for two young aspiring musicians from Lubbock Texas..Jerry Allen, and Buddy Holly!!
.
.
I loved The Duke...If you or anyone you know participated in this weeks Friday Flash 55, please come tell the G-Man. I will visit, read, enjoy, comment, then BOOK!!!
Please have a GLORIOUS week-end.
Peace..!!

Thursday Portrait.....

Ahhhh....Bike Night at Scooters Bar and Grill.
.
With every drink that you buy at Bike Night you get a numbered ticket.
Every 1/2 hour they pick a ticket. If your number is called , you get to choose a prize that usually has a Harley theme to it. Tonight the G-Man was lucky enough to have his ticket pulled once again (I have won many things over the years).
How do I look in my new 80 Dollar Shades?? Hehehehe...
.
And last but not least...The beautiful Yvonne Perry.
She is a very successful local real estate agent, and she and her husband 'Killer' both ride, and are both friends of mine.
.
I hope all you kiddies are contemplating your Friday 55!
.
Peace...!!!

Retro Wednesday........

The first two pics are actual newspaper clippings matted and framed in my office.
1969 is when our founder Vic Canever bought the dealership..
We moved to our present location in 1973..Check out the prices!
The last photo is a painting of EXACTLY how our present dealership looks now..
.
Have a great Hump Day.... Peace!!

TMI Tuesday.......

I'm tired about boring you another day with details about my boring life, so hows about an old fashioned TMI Tuesday...OK?

Now we all remember from English class what an eponym is right?

Really...? You slept thru that one eh?

When you say...Band Aid, you mean adhesive bandage.

Rolodex....A rotory phone number storer

Scotch tape...Cellophane tape

You get the picture...Today I thought it would be interesting to share the origin of one of our most valuable luxuries....Kleenex!

.

In 1914, WWI was being fought in Europe and the cotton that soldiers needed for bandages was starting to run out. So the Kimberly-Clark Co. devised a product called Cellucotton. An absorbant, soft paper that could be used to dress wounds. It was so effective that the Army looked for other uses for it...They found one. They used it as filter for gas masks!!

After the war they had warehouses full of the stuff left over so they had to find a way to market it in peacetime. Their clever solution? A sanitary cold cream remover!

Calling it Kleenex Kerchiefs, they hired movie stars to endorse it as a secret path to glamor. It was a Huge success!!!

.

But Americans found another use for the product...Nose Blowing!!

Men in particular wanted to know why Kleenex had to be a women's product. And women griped that men were stealing their Kleenex to sneaze into. It also seemed that teen-age boys were also finding a use for these soft disposable little wipes, sometimes as many as 4 or 5 times a day!!

Anyway, during the 1920's Kimberly-Clark introduced the pop-up box that always left one sticking out of the box waiting to be grabbed.

So the question remained...Were people buying Kleenex as a cold cream remover, or a nose blower? A survey showed in the 60's that most folks used it as the latter. So thats what K-C emphasized, and thats how we think of it today.

And now you know....The rest of the story! Good Day.

.

Peace...!!!

Back to Work..........

Hi everybody...I hope you all had a great a 3-Day weekend as I did!!!
First of all, Car sales for the month of May SUCKED. I only sold 8 cars, and I barely broke even.
June was headed for the dumper as well, then GM put 0% for 72 months on several models, and I ended up with 15 cars delivered for the month...
So after working every waking minute the last week in June...
And the weather being perfect for 3 straight days...
And having friends and Family over for a couple of cook-outs...
And 3 days of FABULOUS bike riding..
And Once again G-Man emerging as the Pyrotechnics Champion of his street!!!
I feel sooooooo content...
.
...And speaking of Pyrotechnics.
This year more than ever, there seemed to be more ass-holes blasting, and blasting, and blasting. Till well late into the Morning!!!
I bet starting about 8 pm on Thursday night, the barrage was non-stop till Saturday night!!
It fricken sounded like Bagdad!!
I know how much this shit costs...Did these people take out a loan?
.
Anyway...The first pic is my new fire-starter chimney. I loaded the bottom with wadded up newspaper, and it caught the charcoal on fire just perfect!!
With NO petroleum aftertaste!
The second pic is my friend Alex's massive back yard.
He spreads corn out in front of his little shed that you see, and I've counted as many as 25 Wild Turkeys feeding at one time.
You probably can't see them on this primitive phone, but all the way to the back and left of his yard, there are 4 turkeys and a single deer. I can't tell on my lousy PC...
Can you see them?
.
Peace..!!!

Friday Flash 55......

Of the men that attended the Constitutional Congress of 1787...
Nineteen of the 74 people chosen to attend were No-Shows!
Of the 55 that DID show, only 39 signed the document.
But their bar tab was.....
132 bottles of wine
8 bottles of whiskey
8 jugs of cider....
America was born.....At Happy Hour!!!!

Hi everybody, if you or anyone you know has done a Flash Friday 55, come tell the G-Man. I will visit, read, enjoy, comment, then BOOK!!
ALSO...I know that July 4th celebrates the signing of the Declaration of Independence, NOT the Constitution, but this really happened. Big deal, it's still stuff about America...

Word Play Wednesday.....

Hi everybody...enough of the golf already!!!
I'm shelving Retro Wednesday this week in favor of...
Word Play Wednesday!!
I had such fun with the Oxymoron schtick, that I'd thought I'd try something different!
.
.
I wondered why the baseball was getting bigger.. Then it hit me!
.
Police were called to a day care, where a 3 year old was resisting a rest.
.
Did you hear about the guy whose whole left side was cut off?
He's all right now!
.
The roundest knight at King Arthur's Round Table, was Sir Cumference!
.
To write with a broken pencil is pointless.
.
When fish are in schools, they sometimes take debate!
.
The short fortune teller who escaped from prison was...
A small medium at large!!!
.
A thief that stole a calender got 12 months.
.
Thieves that steal corn from a garden, could be charged with stalking.
.
We never run out of math teachers because they always multiply.
.
When the smog lifts in Los Angeles, U.C.L.A.
.
The math teacher went crazy on the blackboard..
He did a number on it!
.
The dead batteries were given out free of charge.
.
If you take your laptop PC for a run..
You could jog your memory!.
.
This last one I stole years ago from the GREAT Soupy Sales...
"You can lead a horse to water, but a pencil must be lead!!"
.
I hope you had some fun today...
Peace...!!!
